Would you like your child to grow closer to God in a way that is peaceful and hands on?

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori-based approach to the religious formation of children, grounded in Sacred Scripture, the liturgy of the Church, and a deep respect for the spiritual life of the child. It recognizes that even very young children are capable of a meaningful and personal relationship with God.

We are pleased to offer Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for children ages 3–6.

In the “atrium” (the specially prepared sacred learning environment), trained catechists gently guide children as they encounter the mysteries of the faith. Rather than traditional classroom instruction, children are invited into quiet reflection, hands-on exploration, and prayer. The catechist’s role is to accompany the child—helping them to listen, wonder, and respond to God’s presence in their own way.

In this sacred space, we help children:

• Learn to enter into silence and prayer in a way that feels natural and peaceful
• Discover that God knows and loves them personally
• Become familiar with the items used at Mass, including the altar, chalice, paten, and other sacred objects
• Learn the colors and meaning of the liturgical seasons throughout the Church year
• Hear and reflect on the life of Jesus through Scripture in a way that is simple, concrete, and meaningful
• Understand the geography of the Holy Land, helping them see Jesus’ life as real history that took place in real places

Through these experiences, we are not rushing formation—we are planting seeds. Our hope is that these early encounters with God will nurture a lifelong relationship rooted in love, prayer, and active participation in the life of the Church, especially the Mass.
