Caring for the global community is an important mandate of Christ who tells us to “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation.” (Mark 16:15) There are various ways in which we heed this call - St. Jude Parish reaches out to others internationally several times a year through various missionaries throughout the world who come to speak at our church and ask for support. For the past several years, our parish has participated in the International Rice Bowl Project through Catholic Relief Services to raise funds and awareness of the issue of world hunger. In the past, we have offered direct support to parishes in Haiti, and for three years now, and continuing into the future, St. Jude has sponsored and supported a Mission Trip to San Bernebe Parish in Duran, Ecuador.
The annual mission Trip to Ecuador has become a centerpiece of our International Outreach. On this trip, parishioners from St. Jude, Nativity, and St. Barnabas Parishes spend two-weeks living and working amongst the poorest of the poor in Ecuador. The principle motivations for this trip are centered on Faith, Service, and Community. We are able to celebrate and worship with the people, we serve some of their physical needs through construction projects, and we build a sense of global community. The relationships we have developed over the years with the people in the neighborhood that we serve are priceless!
